🌟 Exciting Hands-on Learning Experiences at GCPS Elementary Schools!🌟 At Bethel, students participated in the thrilling “Exploding Pumpkin” science experiment! 🎃 The 5th graders from Achilles conducted an experiment to see if they could fill a balloon using collected thermal and radiant energy. What a fun experiment! 🎈 At Petsworth, Ms. Melago's 4th-grade class showcased their creativity with various reader's theater performances, complete with imaginative props and vibrant face paint/costumes! 🎭📖 The Botetourt 5th graders enjoyed the “$100,000 Ladder Game,” where they collaborated to guess key vocabulary words based on clues provided by their peers. Learning through play is the best! 🪜🧠 Meanwhile, our kindergarteners at Abingdon are strengthening their foundational math skills with the assistance of our 5th-grade partners. The 4th graders are fostering a "Building Thinking Classrooms" environment in reading, while the 1st graders are busy counting pumpkin seeds! 🍂✏️ A huge shoutout to all our students and teachers for their hard work and imaginative efforts! Keep up up the great attendance to let your hands on learning shine bright! 🎉 #GCPSElementary #HandsOnLearning #FutureLeaders #AttendanceMattersVA #OurTeachersRock #Weloveourstudents

At approximately 8:50 this morning, Gloucester High School was evacuated due to a gas leak detected on the roof. Our priority was the safety of all students and staff. Fire and life safety teams responded immediately, and parents and students were promptly notified via email and text by 8:55. Students remained safe outside while we awaited confirmation from the fire department. At approximately 9:28 am, the building was declared safe, and everyone was allowed to reenter. We are incredibly grateful for the calm cooperation of our students and staff, and for the swift, professional response from the fire department and the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
