Good Evening GCPS Family:

This is Dr. Clemons calling.  I hope that you are doing well on this Sunday evening.  I want to begin by wishing each of you a Happy New Year and I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season.  I truly believe that 2023 is going to be a great year, and I look forward to our work together.  This comes as a friendly reminder that schools will reopen for all students and staff for a regular school day on tomorrow, which is Monday, January 2nd.  I also want to take this time to inform you of a couple of important updates, so please listen carefully.  I have been in communication with Sheriff Darrell Warren today regarding the tragic shooting that occurred this early Sunday morning in Gloucester County.  Even though this incident is not school related, there will be additional law enforcement presence at our schools tomorrow as a suspect in the shooting has been identified as a fifteen year old male student who attends Gloucester High School.  This is an active investigation, so please contact the Gloucester County Sheriff’s office for further information regarding this matter.   We will also update you on any additional information as advised by law enforcement if applicable and as deemed appropriate.

Next, please review our school calendar that is located on our division homepage under the “2022-23 Calendar” tab as there have been some changes that were approved by the Gloucester County School Board at our regular meeting held on December 13th, 2022.  Specifically, the early closing day for elementary students only has been moved from Tuesday, January 24th, to Wednesday, January 25th with January 24th being a full student day for all students and January 25th being a full day for middle and high school students. The first day of the second semester will now begin on Monday, January 30th as opposed to Tuesday, January 31st, and the first day back for all students after Spring Break will now be on Monday, April 10th as opposed to Tuesday, April 11th.  As a result of the changes I just mentioned, the last day of school will now occur on Friday, June 9th as opposed to Wednesday, June 14th.  Again, the updated calendar information is located on our division homepage.

Finally, and in closing as always, thanks so much for your time and please enjoy the remainder of your Sunday evening.  Stay safe, be blessed and we look forward to seeing all of our students and staff on tomorrow morning.  Dr. C., signing off.
