Gloucester County, VA — The Virginia Department of Education has released student passing rates for the 2024–25 school year, and Gloucester County Public Schools (GCPS) are proud to announce record-breaking achievements at both the state and regional levels.

For the first time since records have been available, Gloucester has been Ranked #1 in Region 3 for overall academic performance, marking a historic milestone for the division.

At the State Level, Gloucester students also earned multiple top-ten rankings, including:

  • 7th in Math for Students with Disabilities

  • 8th Overall in Math

  • 8th in Grade 5 Science

  • 8th in Math for Disadvantaged Students

In addition to these academic gains, results from the 2025 Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions, administered by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in partnership with VDOE, show that Gloucester teachers and students describe their schools as more positive and supportive than both regional and state averages. Teachers report that they feel respected and valued in their work, and students affirm that Gloucester schools provide an environment where they can grow, learn, and succeed.

“These results show the combined strength of instruction, leadership, and community support,” said Dr. Anthony Vladu, Superintendent of Gloucester County Public Schools. “Not only are our students excelling academically, but our teachers and students also report a climate where they feel supported, valued, and positioned for success. Earning first place in Region 3 is a clear statement that Gloucester is committed to excellence and is delivering results.”

Recent state comparisons also confirm that Gloucester continues to demonstrate strong growth in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science, with local data highlighting meaningful progress over multiple years, especially in Math and Writing.

At the heart of this success is the belief in our community, that when we listen, support, and value our people, every student and staff member can thrive. Gloucester County Public Schools will continue to build on this momentum, ensuring every student is prepared for success in the workforce, college, and life.
