Good morning,

At approximately 8:30 this morning, the school administration evacuated Abingdon Elementary School due to the fire alarm sound. Upon receiving notice, the fire department responded immediately and transportation rerouted all school buses to the Kroger parking lot. Once on the scene and after a thorough inspection, the fire department and GCPS maintenance identified that steam set off the mechanical room's alarm in the kitchen area. At approximately 8:52 AM, the fire department cleared the school building for re-entry, and buses were rerouted to school. Students and staff were permitted to enter the building. We are grateful for the swift action of school administrators, the fire department, transportation staff, and maintenance personnel. We are adjusting the schedule to ensure students eat breakfast to start their day.

We appreciate your support and have a great day.
