Virtual Virginia & Gloucester High School Summer 2023 Course Opportunities

Gloucester High School is pleased to offer the opportunity for a limited number of interested GHS students, as well as eligible middle school students, to earn initial high school credit during the Summer 2023 session through Virtual Virginia, the fully-accredited online classroom platform from the Virginia Department of Education. The target audience includes students who demonstrate above-average ability, strong academic effort and commitment, and the maturity to work independently, asynchronously, and follow an ambitious course schedule.

Students who enroll in a Virtual Virginia course during Summer 2023 will:

  • experience a comprehensive, rigorous, autonomous, and fast-paced learning opportunity with the support of a licensed, endorsed content-area teacher;

  • demonstrate independence by engaging in virtual learning from home or any other location with Internet access (school computers may be available, as well);

  • earn high-school credit and have the opportunity to explore additional course offerings at GHS.

Enrollment Period - March 1st, 2023 to June 20th, 2023

Summer 2023 Schedule for Cohort 2
Tuesday, June 20th - Friday, July 28th

TUITION: $375.00 per student, per course (two-course limit). There is no tuition discount or assistance available from GCPS.

Additional considerations:

  • Students are responsible for purchasing any required textbook(s) or other course materials, and providing their own access to technology and technology tools.

  • If the selected course includes a relevant end-of-course assessment, GHS will administer the assessment and award verified credit. Credit is posted to the student’s transcript by the student’s middle or high school.

  • If you are interested in this unique opportunity, review the course options linked here, and complete the embedded Virtual Virginia Summer 2023 Course Request Form below as soon as possible. The school counselor will confirm a student’s eligibility for the course, and the GHS Virtual Virginia registrar will contact you to schedule a registration meeting via phone or internet.

  • If a course is dropped prior to 3:00 pm on the first day of a term, a refund may be requested. There are no tuition refunds after that time.

  • Course enrollment may be limited by Virtual Virginia and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Virtual Virginia operates independently of Gloucester High School and reserves the right to cancel courses due to low enrollment.

Health/PE 9, Health/PE 10, and Economics/Personal Finance, as well as all credit recovery options, will be offered through Gloucester High School’s traditional summer program. Please contact your student’s school counselor for information regarding registration for these courses.
