2024-2025 Growth Assessments: VDOE has provided school divisions with the option to administer an alternative to the state growth assessment during the fall and winter testing windows. GCPS will use STAR Math and Reading in place of the state-created Virginia Growth Assessments. STAR assessments by Renaissance Learning have been used by GCPS for several years as a local screening tool within the MTSS model.

**Pearson Parent Portal scores may be delayed by 10-14 days after a student completes an assessment, with updates on Friday or Monday.

Claim Codes for Parent Portal access are sent at the end of each testing window. If you are looking for a code from the 2023-2024 academic year, please contact the School Testing Coordinator at your child's school.

SDBQ Report and Vertical Scaled Score: Introduced in December 2021, this portal will provide parents with direct access to their child’s Student Detail by Question (SDBQ) report (currently only for Grades 3-8, Reading and Math). This report does not indicate a passing score like the traditional Standards of Learning assessments completed each spring. The SDBQ includes detailed information about student responses and a Vertical Scaled Score. The Vertical Scaled Score indicates the level of support a student may need in that content area based on their responses to the questions on the specific assessment. The Vertical Scaled Score ranges from 900-2000, and a lower score indicates a potential need for more support. Parents/Caregivers may be familiar with other types of scaled score such as the ACT, SAT, and PSAT completed during high school. This SDBQ report will be reviewed along with existing division-wide assessments such as STAR Math/Reading and content-area unit and benchmark assessments; teachers and school and division instructional staff will use this information to identify ways to help students be successful in their current grade level content. Guidelines for interpreting the 2023-2024 VSS have not yet been provided by VDOE.
