Welcome to our study on life cycles!

What is a life cycle?
All living things have a life cycle.  A life cycle is all the stages that happen in a plant or animal's lifetime.  Since all forms of life reproduce (or have more of their kind), a life cycle is a circle that has no end.  One life ends and one always begins.

Life cycles have different stages.
All life cycles start with the birth of a new living thing.  Some animals are born, like you, and some hatch from eggs, like chickens, but all animals go through stages.  The four stages of an animal's life are birth, growth, adult, and death.

What is metamorphosis?
Metamorphosis means a complete change.  During life cycle stages, some animals, like frogs and butterflies, change forms while other animals resemble (or look like) their parents when they are born.

During our unit, we will learn about the life cycles of mammals (humans), birds (chickens), amphibians (frogs) and insects (butterflies).  Look at this web to see what you will learn.
